"The Social Music Revolution"
I love listening to music, both on the radio and on cd's...but both places you're stuck listening to songs you don't really like (unless you scan the stations...but then that can get annoying). SOOOO............check out Last.fm for a new way to listen to music. Let me know what you think of the site.

"Mommy Daddy sad!" - Justin
We have pictures of Justin everywhere...on the walls, on tabletops, on our computer wallpaper, etc. Well, yesterday I moved one of our wedding pictures from hanging on the wall to a tabletop. When Justin saw the picture, he said "Mommy Daddy sad!" (even though we are smiling in the picture) I asked him why Mommy and Daddy are sad, and he said, "No see Justin. Justin bye-bye." How can I argue with that? I just told him to give Mommy and Daddy a kiss so we'd be happy. He is becoming very observant.

it pay$...TAKE 2
I was at Carlos O'Kelly's for my Tupperware unit meeting (yes, I sell Tupperware), and I ordered a taco salad. I had a coupon for buy one entree get one free, so I was going to get something to take home for Josh. The waiter told me he'd come back later to get the second order so that it would be fresh for when I leave. He did come back later and got my order, but he forgot to turn it in...which he didn't realize until he saw everyone else getting ready to leave and me just standing there. He told me it would just be a few minutes, and 15 minutes later he brought me my order in a really big bag. I must have had a look on my face that said, "Why such a big bag for one order of quesadillas?" b/c he said "I threw in some chips and salsa since you had to wait so long."
Both stories would have turned out differently if I had been rude and impatient. It's encouraging when you get positive results when you are patient.

it pay$ to be patient
two stories to share with you...
I took Kyle back to the docs b/c 3 bottles of medicine didn't take care of his thrush. His appt. was @ 10:30 and we didn't get called back until a little after 11:00. The doctor checked him out and prescribed a new, stronger medication. We checked in at the pharmacy @ 11:45, and they said it would be about 10-20 minutes. A half hour later it still wasn't ready, so I took Kyle back to the pediatric office where they have a nursing room, fed him, and returned to the pharmacy. By now it was after 12:30, and the prescription still wasn't ready...and now Justin had to go to the bathroom! While in the bathroom, I heard them call Kyle's name...and since I wasn't out there, I was going to have to wait in line again! So, I get to the window and they tell me they are still waiting for the dr. to get back to them and clarify something, but they do explain the hold-up to me. I finally walk out of there at 1:15 (almost 3 hours after I walked in) with a free prescription...they didn't charge me b/c I had to wait so long.
the boys demand my attention now, so tune back again for the next story!

music
Josh downloads a lot of music from itunes and stores it on his computer or ipod. I get to hear the music occasionally, but I'm really glad he made a cd copy of Phil Wickham's new album. It's "off the chain" as Josh would say!

As Josh mentioned in his blog the other day, we made some pumpkin cookies hoping to bring on the fall weather! Here is a picture story of the fun!

: : THANK YOU : :
a bit belated, but here it is...
"Thank You," women of LCC, for the meals you provided for me and my family after Kyle was born. They were very delicious, and the leftovers made great lunches.
I chose to either sleep or take a shower in my spare time at first, and then when I finally sat down to write Thank You cards, I kept getting interrupted by potty breaks or a crying baby...and then here we are eight weeks later, and they still aren't done!
I also wanted to say "Thanks" for all the diapers and baby gifts. Both the meals and the gifts were greatly appreciated.
THANKS!

new title
With the changing of the seasons comes the need for a new blog title. "Sandals & Smoothies" just doesn't seem appropriate for fall and winter.

running
I was going to give this post a clever title ("to cheat, or not to cheat"; "cheating and making excuses"; "getting back in shape"; and "the 10 minute mile" to name a few)...but I decided to just call it what it is and leave the creativity to Josh. (you'll understand those titles soon)
After taking a year off from running, I started back up a couple days ago. Even though it's just one mile, I was still tempted to take a shortcut the first time...but I figured I'd only be cheating myself and I wouldn't have as big of a sense of accomplishment...so I didn't cheat myself. The second day of running was slightly easier, but then the third day I almost didn't go running b/c it was sprinkling outside...but I knew that was just an excuse, so I ran...and it felt good that I didn't cheat myself again. I've gone running four days now, and I've shaved a few seconds off my time...I think I'm close to a 9 minute mile now!!!!!

two boys
Well, I'm finally blogging about the big event that took place a week ago...the birth of baby Kyle. I know Josh already described that morning for you, but now you get to hear what happened from my point of view.
It all started at 5:15 in the morning when I decided to call the advice nurse b/c I had been counting contractions for the last hour and they had gotten to 6 minutes apart. I gave all my info and answered some questions...the nurse relayed this info to the doctor and came back telling me to wait to come to the hospital until my contractions were painful enough that I couldn't talk or walk through them...so I hung up. by the time I got back to bed, I had two more contractions (4 minutes apart). I woke Josh up and told him what the doctor said, but then I told him that I think we should go right now anyway b/c if we decided to wait until later, we might get stuck in rush hour traffic. Josh flew out of bed and quickly got ready to leave for the hospital. I wanted to tell him there's no rush, but then I figured the sooner we leave, the less traffic we'd hit. So we were on the road by 5:45. After a quick stop to drop Justin off at Josh's parents' house, we were back on 95 weaving in and out of traffic. I wasn't really in much pain, but the contractions were 3 to 4 minutes apart and lasting almost 2 minutes (which means they were almost back to back). We finally got to the hospital a little before 7:00. We went to the registration desk to check in, and the lady asked us what we were there for. I told her we were there to have a baby...then she asked if there were any signs of labor...and I was about to say something sarcastic when Josh jumped in and said, "Yeah, she's in labor right now!" As the registration lady took her time getting all the paperwork around, the contractions got a little less bearable...I had to lean on the desk during them...but she didn't notice, or if she did, she still didn't speed up. Finally we have all the paperwork filled out and she directs us upstairs where we have to check in again. As I'm sitting there in front of yet another registration desk, the contractions start coming back-to-back. I sign a couple more papers and then they finally take me back to "check my progress." As I'm lying in one of the curtained rooms waiting on a nurse, I get the feeling that I need to push. I told Josh who relayed this information to the nurses outside the room, and they said, "Ok, we'll be in in a couple of minutes." A nurse comes in and checks everything and says, "Yep, you're in labor." Again, I had to stop myself from being sarcastic! They take me to a labor/delivery room (the clock says 7:30 at this point) and tell me the doctor will be in shortly. I tell these more competent nurses that I feel like I have to push and they told me to try to wait. They hooked me up to IV and asked if I'd like an epidural. Josh said, "YES!" (I don't think he liked seeing me in pain:) I asked the nurse how long it would take and she said the IV would have to be in for 10-15 minutes before I could get the epidural and then it would take at least 15 more minutes for the epidural to take effect. So I ask if I even have time to get it, and the doctor steps in and says, "I don't think so." and a few minutes later, Kyle was born!!! It was extremely painful but over with in 20 minutes...I actually preferred this birth over the 15 hours of less painful labor with Justin. The recovery is a lot faster, too.

ice cream truck
I don't know who "invented" the ice cream truck...but they almost definitely had a degree in child psychology. Most of the time Justin doesn't even eat the ice cream that he buys from the ice cream truck...what he loves is going up to the window with money and getting to choose a character ice cream (Spongebob, Spiderman, etc.) I guess it's just special b/c it only happens once a week. I'm sure he wouldn't be as crazy for the ice cream truck if he saw it every day.

new picture coming soon
I'm blogging two days in a row...I must not be busy!!!
I usually check my blog the day after I post an entry to see if anyone left a comment...and as I was looking at my blog tonight, I realized that I will need to post a new family picture soon. We don't have too many family pics, though b/c I'm normally the one behind the camera. I guess I'll have to pass the camera on to someone else so I can get an updated family picture.
PS check this out!

hating gravity
I am so ready to have this baby. If it weren't for gravity, I wouldn't be so impatient. I feel fine sitting down, but walking around is kind of a pain...I feel like I have to hold my stomach to keep Kyle from falling out! Depending on which date I go by, he should be making his appearance in 1 1/2 to 3 weeks.

80's memories
I visited the 80's Tees website that I found out about by reading Josh's blog ... and I found the above items. I have a Funshine Care Bear (packed away somewhere), and my first lunchbox was Rainbow Brite. I don't even remember what the Rainbow Brite tv show was about...I just remember having a pair of socks just like hers. I guess I'll have to wiki her to jog my memory!

full term
well, i had a prenatal appt. today (they are weekly now), and the dr. told me that I am now full term, and if I were to go into labor, they wouldn't do anything to stop it...so I guess that means we need to make sure we are ready for Kyle Austin...suitcase packed, going home outfit picked out, etc. I also want to make sure the house is clean so that I have one less thing to worry about when we bring the baby home. Josh has been extremely helpful around the house...doing dishes, laundry, vacuuming, you name it. My husband's pretty awesome!

the claw
I was shopping for birthday presents for my husband the other day when I came across The Claw! It was actually my two year old son who saw it first...and of course he wanted it, but we were shopping for daddy. But then, the more I thought about it, this would be the perfect gift for Josh b/c he has often tried to win something for me or Justin on these machines (sometimes succeeding), but then I complain that it's a waste of money. I know it's the challenge of the game that he likes...not the cheap toy that he tries to pick up...SOOO, the claw became one of his birthday presents. Justin carried the box throughout Target, and then when we got home, he grabbed a key and tried to open the box (something he has seen his daddy do). I quickly put the box in a gift bag and covered it with tissue paper when Justin wasn't looking, but he found it and kept trying to open the box...so we gave the gift to Josh right away. He liked it almost as much as Justin!

failed my goal
It's been three weeks since my last post. When I started this blog, my goal was to post at least twice a week...but that obviously didn't happen! I have an excuse for one of the weeks, though. We went on a much needed vacation to the beach. It felt good to relax and not do much of anything. I even got to go the whole week without wearing socks and shoes...just bare feet and sandals (which went well with our smoothies). We got to do a lot of fun stuff with Justin this year, too, cuz he's a little boy now and a lot more active. I got some good pictures that I'll have to post eventually.
I am now recommitting to my goal...come back in a couple days, and you will see another post.

left or right?
I made a mistake the other day...Justin was eating a freeze pop, and I let him cut off the top. Now he keeps asking for freeze pops so he can use the scissors. He's actually really good with the scissors...he holds them correctly and is able to open them by himself and cut. Seeing him cut, though, made me wonder, "Is he right handed or left handed?" He seems to handle the scissors better with his left hand, and he also uses a fork and spoon with his left hand a lot. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

one day...
We have a really nice deck...it was one of the big selling points when we decided to buy the house. Right now, the extent of our deck decor is two plastic chairs and a grill. But one day (hopefully soon) our deck will be be furnished with one or more of these!

30 + 3
I haven't been keeping track of how many weeks along i am like i did when i was pregnant with justin...I've just been counting up/down the months which seems to make the pregnancy go faster. BUT at my doc's appt. on Thursday, i was told that i was at 30 wks. and 1 day...that means I'm 3/4 of the way through the pregnancy! We'll be welcoming Kyle Austin into this world in less than 10 weeks.

blog title
With the beach only 3 weeks away, that's all I can think about! Sandals & Smoothies...not wearing shoes at all for an entire week and enjoying nightly smoothies @ Tropical Smoothie Cafe. It's unfortunate that I'll be over 7 months pregnant so I won't be able to enjoy the actual beach and ocean as much as I did last year, but it will still be fun and relaxing. I'll definitely post some pics when we return. Maybe Justin won't be afraid of the ocean this year, and I'll actually get a picture of him in the water instead of running away from it...we'll see.

just like daddy
wanted to share one of my favorite pics...
justin has to do everything just like his daddy (mowing the grass, playing guitar, and even shaving)
keeping up
Well, this is my first blog post. i know, i know...I'm a little behind the times, but I have lots of excuses (don't worry...i won't bore you by listing them). i kept saying i'll start a blog when I'm not so busy, but with a new baby 2 1/2 months away i don't think i'll ever be less busy. so...here i am blogging trying to keep up with josh!
